In the Bible it says let those with ears hear, and those with eyes see.
Last night we watched Bruce Almighty, and tonight we watched Evan Almighty. Both had their moments, and as believers we were obviously moved toward reflection. As discerning believers, we took in the movies understanding what they said, as well as what they didn’t say.
Guard our hearts Lord.

What are those movies about?
In Bruce Almighty, God gives a man all of His powers...for some reason. In Evan Almighty, God steers a man toward becoming Noah (he even builds an ark)...for some reason.
In both cases, the movies contain somewhat entertaining parodies covering the relationship God has with man and man has with God, but neither movie genuinely addresses sin or salvation.
In my opinion, while both movies are sprinkled with a few nuggets of truth, and they do humorously display man's folly, both movies fall far short of the whole truth…in exchange for a pleasantly packaged and easily digestible version of "just be nice."
For a discerning Christian, these movies are excellent discussion pieces, but for less discerning movie watchers, they make the broad path look reasonably acceptable.
I can see why, then, you'd ask the Lord to guard your hearts. Man loves to take the easy path that doesn't really deal with the nitty gritty of sin....
